quality assurance manager

The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring the appropriate processes, controls, metrics, and systems are in place. Responsible to ensure that all Hays Fluid Controls products meet internal organizational standards and external customer expectations. This role establishes the strategic quality plan to support organization’s growth plan, makes use of existing methods, and is a strong advocate for new systems to drive continuous improvement. Adjust approach and level of control based on risk. Exercise judgment in dealing with unusual cases or those involving significant costs.  Works closely with different departments across the plant. Leads the Quality Assurance team and plays a role in implementing and executing quality procedures, process, and method across the plant. 


1.     Build, develop and foster a high performing Quality Team. Identify and implement systems, processes, measures, training, and tooling which improves the quality performance of the operation.  Perform analysis on data to target opportunities for continuous improvement and make recommendations on project viability.

2.     Develop and establish the annual Quality performance goals for returns, scrap, back-charges, and field failures, along with the operational budget. Own responsibility for hitting these targets. Develop and implement statistical process controls. 

3.     Drive continuous improvement within the organization.  

4.     Provide ongoing analysis on the trends of quality within the organization and identify opportunities for improvement. 

5.     Develop and lead the action plan to prevent, contain, or resolve significant quality issues.

6.     Confirm vendor partners meet expectations for quality and manage their performance. Work closely with Procurement, Engineering and Operations in this regard and may collectively agree to discontinue partnerships with non-performing vendors. Develop quality controls to mitigate risk specific to offshore sourcing and tech licensing.

7.     Perform forensic analyses of non-conforming products. Adjust quality controls for products, sourcing, and process as exposure changes. Expertise is used to ensure there is balance between speed, quality, and cost. 

8.     Ensures adequate quality standards are implemented at various levels across the plant and develop PFMEA to mitigate risk of product failure. Develop and timely train employees on procedures and responsible for leading the audits. 

9.     Maintain, review, and own the Quality Assurance Manual, Calibration schedules. Perform supplier audits on timely schedules to keep the quality of incoming products and raw materials in check. Report any areas of risk during supplier audits to leadership. 

10.  Coordinate entire third-party certification (FM and UL) audit process, respond to corrective action requests, confirm follow-up on action items, maintain up-to-date documentation, and submit changes for approval. 

11.  Meet all company work schedule and attendance expectations and perform within the physical and environmental demands of the job.



1.     Provide training for onboarding employees. Responsible for Safety and OSHA requirements at Hays. 

2.     Ability to understand GOV & DOE clauses and standards, BAA requirements, requested by customers to ensure that Hays has the capability to meet quality requirements anticipated by the customer or take exceptions wherever applicable. 

3.     Identify equipment, software, and training that can improve quality. 

4.     Educate Hays departments on quality assurance matters. Engage others with the value of the corporate quality philosophy.



1.     Bachelor’s Degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

2.     8+ years of experience in Quality Assurance and/or a senior level engineering or manufacturing role.

3.     5+ years of experience in a managerial role.

4.     Strong knowledge of Quality Assurance practices and standards (ANSI, ASTM, MIL standards, etc.).

5.     Expert QA skills, including print reading, inspection, measurement, metallurgy, and defect recognition.

6.     Strong working understanding of typical QA tools including calipers, thread gages, vision system, optical comparators, hardness testers, compression testing, and spectrometers.

7.     Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; able to interpret a ranging variety of technical instructions in mathematical, written, or drawing form and deal with both abstract and concrete variables.

8.     Strong organizational skills, including record keeping and exposure to ERP system. 

9.     Strong computer skills, including MS Office programs.

10.  Strong written and oral communication skills.



1.     Previous experience working in manufacturing plant that involves metals, casting and forging processes, compression and injection molding of plastic and rubber.

2.     Previous experience with developing a QA structure/system and seeing it forward to success.

3.     Previous experience in auditing systems is a plus.
