FAN COIL PIPING PACKAGE
PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATION

 1.0       AUTOMATIC BALANCING PIPING PACKAGES

 1.1             Contractor shall provide and install Hays Piping Packages.  Each kit, shall include a Hays 2500 Series Mesurflo Automatic Flow Control Valve, two ball valves, and may include; a motorized automatic temperature control valve, high flow "Y" strainer, two or more unions, and various other accessories.

 2.0       MANUAL BALANCING PIPING PACKAGES

 2.1             Contractor shall provide and install Hays Piping Packages.  Each kit, shall include an IT&T, Bell & Gossett, Circuit Setter Plus, CB Series, Flow Control Valve, one ball valve, and may include; a motorized automatic temperature control valve, high flow "Y" strainer, two or more unions, and various other accessories.

 3.0       AUTOMATIC FLOW CONTROL VALVES  (AFCV)

 3.1             Automatic flow control valves shall be factory set to rated flow, and shall automatically control the flow to within 10% of the rated value, over a 40 to 1 differential pressure, operating range, (2 to 80 PSID). Operational temperature shall be rated from fluid freezing, to 225 degree F.

 3.2       Valve body, shall be constructed of hot forged brass UNS C37700 or C36000 per ASTM B-283 latest revision, ductile iron per ASTM A 395-80 or valve grade cast iron per ASTM 126-84 Class B with inch size pipe thread fittings per ASME/ANSI B1.20.1, and B31.9.  UNS C37700 and UNS C36000 valve bodies are suitable for 600 PSIG. Iron, valve bodies are suitable for 400 PSIG. Working Pressure rating per ASTM A53B threaded joint type. Valve body shall also be available with sweat fittings per ASME/ANSI  B16.22 requirements and are intended for use in Building Services Piping meeting the requirements of ASME/ANSI B31.9. The Temperature/Pressure Rating of the Solder Joint is dependent upon the type of solder used. ANSI Std B16.22 Pressure Ratings should be reviewed prior to sweating.

3.3   Valve internal control mechanism shall be of a quiet, clog resistant design and consist of one or more, precision sculptured brass or polyphenylsulfone orifi with high temperature elastomeric diaphragm. Each automatic balancing valve will automatically control the flow rate within 10% of its rated flow, over a temperature range of 32 to 225 degree F, and a pressure differential range of 2-80 PSID. Flow increments shall be available in 0.125 to 0.5 GPM steps for 0.5 to 8.0 GPM, 1.0 to 2.0 GPM steps for 9.0 to 24 GPM, and 5.0 GPM steps for 25 to 200 GPM.  

3.4       Dual pressure/temperature test ports for verifying the pressure differential and system temperature shall be standard.

3.5             Manufacturer shall provide certified independent laboratory tests verifying accuracy of performance.

 3.6       All valves shall be marked per MMS-SP-25-78 (1983) and shall show as a minimum; controlled flow direction, flow rate, PSID control range, manufacturer and model number

 4.0             MANUAL BALANCING VALVES (MBV)

 4.1             Manual Balancing Valves shall be constructed with a memory stop to allow the valve to be closed for service and then reopened to set point without disturbing balance position. Operational temperature shall be rated from fluid freezing to 250 degree F.

 4.2       Valve body shall be constructed of forged bronze with brass ball construction, glass/carbon filled TFE seat rings, and inch size pipe thread fittings per ASME/ANSI B1.20.1. Valve bodies are suitable for 300 PSIG. Working Pressure rating per ASTM A53B threaded joint type. Valve body shall also be available with sweat fittings per ANSI  Std B16.22 requirements and are intended for use in Building Services Piping meeting the requirements of ASME B31.9. The temperature /Pressure Rating of the Solder Joint is dependent upon the type of solder used. ANSI Std B16.22 Pressure Ratings should be reviewed prior to sweating

4.3       Valve internal control mechanism shall consist of a calibrated movable orifice and a positive shut off valve.

4.4       Dual pressure/temperature test ports for verifying the pressure differential and system temperature shall be standard. All valves shall be supplied with a 1/4" NPT tapped drain/purge port.

 4.5       Valves shall be supplied with calibrated name plates to assure specific settings.

4.6       All valves shall be marked per MMS-SP-25-78 (1983) and shall show as a minimum, controlled flow direction, manufacturer and model number.

5.0             SUPPLY AND RETURN HOSES

5.1       All hoses shall be equipped with swivel end / union connections at terminal unit.  All end connections shall be permanently crimped to meet stated pressure ratings.

5.2.1       STAINLESS STEEL BRAIDED HOSES, 1 ½” TO 3”

5.2.1   Hose materials shall be a single stainless steel braid over a corrugated type 321 stainless steel tube, butt welded to carbon steel end fittings. Operational temperature shall be rated from fluid freezing to 1500 degree F.

5.2.2       Hoses shall be rated for a minimum working pressure of 525 PSI (1 1/2 inch), 455 PSI (2 inch), 344 PSI (2 ½ inch), 290 PSI (3 inch). Minimum burst pressure shall be four times the working pressure.

 5.3            GALVANIZED STEEL & STAINLESS STEEL BRAIDED HOSES, 1/2" TO 1 1/4"

 5.3.1   Hose materials shall be reinforced, bonded,fire retardant EPDM rubber, and rated for a minimum working pressure of 300 PSI (3/4), 400 PSI (1/2 & 1 1/4 inch), 500 PSI (1 inch). Minimum burst pressure shall be four times the working pressure.

5.3.2   Hose materials shall be galvanized steel, or stainless steel  braid over a fire retardant EPDM liner, and bonded to the braid. Hoses shall be rated for -40 to +200 degrees F.

5.3.3   Hose materials shall meet the flammability requirements of U. L. Inc. Std UL-94, VO, Component Plastics, QMFZ2. Listing Card E80017 available on request.

 5.3.4   Hose connectors shall be permanently crimped, swivels shall be 37 degree JIC with straight pipe threads, adapters shall be 37 degree male JIC and male NPT. All connections shall be steel, Zinc dichromate treated and have reusable thread sealant pre-applied to the tapered pipe threads.

 6.0       BALL VALVES

 6.1       Ball valves shall be made of bronze and rated for 400 WOG, with inch size pipe thread fittings per ANSI B1.20.1 with full flow design.

6.2       Ball valves may be provided with an optional pressure/temperature, pressure port, or manual air vent, or blow down valve or blow down valve with hose connector.

7.0       ACCESSORIES

7 .1      STRAINER

7.1.1          Strainer shall be Y-type configuration made of bronze with a brass cap. Maximum pressure rating of 400 PSIG. and ported with inch size pipe threads per ASME/ANSI B1.20.1 and B31.9.

7.1.2       Strainer screen shall be stainless steel, with 50 Mesh (1/2) and 20 Mesh (3/4, 1, & 1 ¼) and easily accessible for cleaning without disconnecting hoses.

7.1.3       Strainer shall be offered with an optional pressure/temperature, pressure port, manual air vent, blow down valve or blow down valve with hose connector.

 7.2            CHECK VALVE

 7.2.1   Check Valve shall be swing type, with brass; body, cap, hinge, disc and screw.

 7.2.2   Check Valve shall be rated 150 PSIG WSP / 300 PSIG WOG.

 7.2.3   Check Valve shall comply with MSS-SP-80 Type 2, and be ported with inch size pipe threads per ASME/ANSI B1.20.1, and B31.9.

8.0             LARGER SIZE PIPING PACKAGE CONNECTIONS

 8.1             FLANGED

 8.1.1            FLANGED 2 1/2, 3, & 4, INCH Valve and fitting bodies shall be constructed of ductile iron per ASTM A395-80. Valve bodies are suitable for 400 PSIG. Flanges are welded wrought steel per ANSI 16.5-1968, or MSS-SP-44 150 lb. Working Pressure Rating per ANSI Class 150.

8.1.2            FLANGED 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, & 16, INCH Valve and fitting bodies shall be carbon steel tubing per ASTM A 53 Grade B, Type S or E, with carbon steel ends per ANSI B16.9, and ASTM A234. Grade B.  Valve bodies are suitable for no less than 430 PSIG. Flanges are welded wrought steel per ANSI 16.5-1968, or MSS-SP-44 150 lb. Working Pressure Rating per ANSI Class 150.   

8.2            STEEL WELDED Welded Valves 4, 6, 8, & 10 INCH shall have an external housing of carbon steel tubing per ASTM A 53 Grade B, Type S or E, with carbon steel ends per ANSI B16.9, and ASTM A234 Grade B. End fittings per ASME A181 Grade 1. Working Pressure Rating per ASTM A53B; 430 PSIG 4 inch, 600 PSIG 6 inch, 500 PSIG 8 inch, and 400 PSIG 10 inch.

 8.3            GROOVED END Grooved End fittings and valves 4, 6, 8, & 10 INCH shall have an external housing of carbon steel tubing per ASTM A 53 Grade B, Type S or E, with carbon steel ends per ANSI B16.9, and ASTM A234 Grade B. Grooved End fittings per ANSI B31.9, and NFPA 13. Working Pressure Rating, 430 PSIG 4 inch, 600 PSIG 6 inch, 500

9.0             MOTORIZED AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL VALVE

9.1       The motorized ATC Valve shall be of the low power type (6.5 Watts 7 VA), with an opening time of 13 to 18 seconds, and a closing time of 4 to 5 seconds. The motorized head shall be removable, and have 18 inch 18 Ga. leads, and be housed in a metal enclosure with conduit opening.

9.2.1   The valve body shall be constructed of hot forged brass UNS C37700 per ASTM B-283, with inch size pipe thread fittings per ASME/ANSI B1.20.1 and B31.9. The paddle shall be made of Buna N, suitable for use with hot and chilled water with up to 50% Glycol, for operating temperatures of 32 to 200 degrees F.

9.2.2       Valves shall be rated for 300 PSI operating pressure and a close off pressure of 30 PSI (1/2 inch), 20 PSI (3/4 and 1 inch). Cv ratings shall be 3.5 (1/2 inch), 5.0 (3/4 inch), and 8.0 (1 inch). Valves of other sizes, Cv ratings, close off pressures, 2-Way, 3-Way, Modulating, Electro-hydraulic, or Pneumatic actuated shall be available.

 9.2.3       Valves may be customer supplied, Hays installed, Hays supplied and installed, or customer supplied, customer installed.

 10.0         PACKAGING All packages shall be individually shrink wrapped to a 18 X 24” board and be marked with job site, building, and terminal identification. Piping Packages too large for the 18 X 24” board shall be individually boxed or skid packaged, and identified the same as the smaller sizes.

 11.0       WARRANTY

 11.1   Steel braided hose shall be warranted  by manufacturer, for no less than three (3) years from date of purchase. Automatic Flow Control Valves containing F-Size orifice and diaphragm shall be warranted for the life of the HVAC system in which it was originally installed. All other components shall be warranted by manufacturer, for no less than five (5) years from date of purchase.
